Unlocking the Energy of Crystals: A Guide to Connection and Healing

Many of us in the spiritual community, as well as people around the world, are drawn to crystals and their healing properties. But what are crystals, really? A quick internet search reveals information about their microscopic structures and mineral compositions, formed over time through processes like heating, cooling, pressure, and more. In my own channeling sessions, I’ve come to understand crystals as energetic manifestations of frequency, captured in their crystalline structure and mineral makeup. As a collective, we’ve manifested these physical forms of frequency to aid us. Crystals help us remember, reconnect, and access healing energies, clear our energy, and activate frequencies. Until we recognize that our souls are capable of raising their own vibrations to align with these frequencies, activating the crystalline structures within our own energy fields, these tools assist us on our journeys here on Earth.

Each crystal holds a vibration and frequency that can not only align with our energy but can also help us heal, grow, activate, clear, ground, and more. Each crystal’s unique frequency offers specific attributes or beneficial properties to support us in various ways.

When selecting a crystal, there are many ways to go about it, and finding a method that works for you is essential. You can start by setting an intention based on a specific benefit or property you seek, or consider what you need at a particular time. Another approach, and my personal favorite, is allowing your intuition or the universe to guide you to the crystal you need at that moment. Crystals possess various properties and abilities, so once you’ve selected, cleared, and possibly charged yours, take a moment to connect with it, feel its energy, and set an intention for its purpose.

There are several ways to cleanse a crystal before working with its energy. A few crystals—like selenite, citrine, kyanite, and clear quartz—are generally believed not to require cleansing, although reconnecting with their energy periodically can be beneficial. Most other crystals benefit from regular cleansing. The best method for this can vary depending on the crystal’s material composition. Smudging with palo santo, incense, or sage is effective, though sage use can be a complex issue given its significance in indigenous cultures, so each person must decide what feels right. Another cleansing option is salt; placing crystals in a bowl of salt for at least two hours can be effective. While water is a universal cleanser for many crystals, it should be avoided for selenite, pyrite, lapis lazuli, malachite, and turquoise, among others. You can also cleanse crystals by placing them in the freezer or burying them overnight.

Before working with your crystals, it’s recommended to charge them. If you’re trained in Reiki or other energy practices, you can use this energy to charge, cleanse, or set intentions with your crystals. Visualization can also be effective for connecting with a crystal and asking it to work on a specific task. Some crystals, like sunstone, enjoy charging in sunlight, but most crystals may fade if exposed to direct sunlight over time. Moonlight, particularly under a full moon, is another excellent option—just be mindful of the energy of the particular full moon you’re using. For instance, charging your crystals under a Taurus full moon infuses them with Taurus energy. Another charging method I enjoy is using selenite, quartz, or kyanite. You can place your crystals on a crystal plate, bowl, or container with these stones to charge and cleanse them. There are many ways to charge and cleanse crystals; finding what resonates with you is key.

There’s an incredible array of crystals available to support us on our journeys. I hope this post offers some insights into the energy contained within these beautiful ‘rocks.’ Interestingly, their microscopic crystalline structures share shapes with the Platonic solids. Coincidence? I think not.
